Facebook Marketplace Find Turned Pottery Barn Sofa

Facebook Marketplace Sofa Find

Who doesn’t love coming across a total score on Facebook Marketplace? It is such a good feeling to know what a deal you are getting that you just want to tell everyone.

Alex and I have been talking about getting a new couch for about 6 months. Our beloved couch we bought brand new from World Market with money from a wedding I photographed for a whopping $500. It was a big upgrade from Alex’s dad’s donated leather armless bachelor futon that randomly collapsed while we sat on it. That World Market couch has served us well through 6 years, 1 dog, 1 cat, 3 kids, and 4 moves. But it was time, the cushions had started to disappear to the point you could feel some spring/wire grid as you sat on it. It wasn’t very big and only one person could lay down on it, it was not very cuddle friendly.

So we started looking around at furniture stores and I was not impressed. I wasn’t looking for anything blocky or square or modern, dark, fuzzy, or leather. I wanted a light color, rounded arms, very deep seat (like 2 people could sleep on it) and high back. All of that equals $$$$. Think Pottery Barn.

At this time we also had been approached with the possibility of moving and I didn’t like the idea of spending a pretty penny on a couch to fit our current place, only to move and need something different. So we waited. When we finally got the most vague clear answer that we are moving in the spring, I said okay, now I can start looking for something that will fit in the new place. I like a lot of time to research and time to find the best deal so I thought over the next few months I could keep my eye on craigslist, marketplace and our local furniture sellers. I did not expect to find the holy grail of couches on Facebook Marketplace right away!

I found a sofa and a loveseat for $200! TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR BOTH PEOPLE!

All it said was “needs a deep clean” and the picture was a little dark so I wanted to go see it in person before committing. Inside I was like oh man these are fabulous but I was trying to play it cool and not desperate. The couches were in this swanky town and I was from hicktown and I was gladly willing to take their “dirty” sofa. Most people wouldn’t have even cleaned this sofa but I thought now or never would be the time to go over every square inch for a fresh start.

So we rented a rug doctor with an upholstery attachment and went over it. And it looks great! And I am looking for a small bissell cleaner to purchase to keep it looking great. And buying a bissell still puts me way under budget for our sofa!

Now we don’t have room for both the sofa and the loveseat so I debated on selling the love seat for $$ and making some money but it was so comfy and I wanted to wait and see it in our new place. So my sister graciously let us put it in their living room. They get more seating and we get to keep it for our next place. The sofa is also very large for our current living room but it is comfy and we are happy.

What’s a good marketplace, garage sale, craigslist, side of the road find that you scored?
