I cannot believe that we opened our Farm Stand on Saturday, December 4th and people walked through our doors. PEOPLE CAME!!
I think I was up until midnight the night before trying to tie up loose ends and making lists for the next morning. And I was up bright and early, so early ready to go. My dad was making a step that morning for the front, and bringing in some scoops of gravel to help with the mud. Alex helped spread out the gravel and offer a much needed extra set of hands.
And by the way, our Farm Stand was not exactly finished, our roof was tar paper and we have 2 out of 4 sides with battens. If you look at some of the photos from opening day you can see the sun shining in through the cracks. But we had enough to be open!
The weather forecast for Saturday had gone from sunshine to rain the closer we got to Saturday which is not great with a building that wasn’t quite buttoned up.
And 10:00am came and we opened our doors! We prayed the rain would hold off and it did for the day! But it was very windy. Within 10 minutes of being open, two strips of tar paper ripped right off. I couldn’t believe it, especially with the high chance of rain and all of our things inside. I quickly grabbed the pieces and placed them behind the stand and weighted them down. But of course my dad saw it all the way from the house and came down to re-staple the pieces. That man. And of course it was not an easy task with these big gusts of wind and trying to get them back on by himself with an old staple gun that kept jamming. And I don’t know if you have any experience with a staple gun but they have a long spring that you load in after the staples and it can fly out as you’re trying to put it in place. Well that spring came flying out and smacked him right in the eyeball!
The rest of the day went great, it was a little cold but the rain held off and we had people come and we learned a lot and kept freaking out about how insane it all was that this was actually happening!
Thank you to everyone who has shown up, spread the word, prayed for us and supported this new adventure!
Thank you to my wonderful husband for letting me be gone a lot to work on this stand and for also jumping in and helping after a long day of work.
Thank you to my parents, for letting this be built on their property.
Thank you to my dad for believing in us and designing the stand, for taking weekends and evenings to work on all the things so we didn’t have to purchase them.
Thank you to my mom, for supporting us every step of the way and for the many breakfasts, lunch, dinners and hot cocoas.
Thank you to my sister and Brandon, my brother in law, for cheering us on, for showing up and helping with some very long work days.
It is so exciting to have a dream become a beautiful reality.
