If you saw the before photos you may have noticed the Barlow Blue layout has a lot of doors and doorways. I am excited that we can eliminate some of those with some floor plan changes! Check out some of the changes we are making to Barlow Blue below.
Here is the before Barlow Blue layout:
Let’s start in the kitchen!
This is the area that has the biggest floor plan change by far. There are 4 doors and 2 openings, that’s a lot! The opening from the kitchen to the dining room is getting moved over to accommodate the kitchen counter which is currently a hip-hitting hazard. The opening to the living room is getting closed and this will allow us to put our fridge, stove and a small cabinet on that wall. Door swings will be moved to optimize flow from space to space.
The pantry off of the kitchen used to house the water heater and that is getting moved up to the attic. A big surprise to me but I am excited to have even a little more space. This water heater is also 3x the size of our current water heater – woo hoo! I am excited for the pantry and having a place for everything!
The washer and dryer are going to go in the mudroom off of the kitchen. A stacking unit would provide more space but I am not a fan of the front-loading washers I have had so I opted for a top-loading, knowing it will be a little tight.
The Bathroom:
Next up, is the bathroom. The door to the bedroom will be walled off and the wall between the bathroom and the small pass-through room will also be removed. The wall dividing the bathroom is even getting pushed out a few inches to be able to put the tub in and to have room for plumbing and electrical. A vanity will be added with one sink. I have been very adamant about one sink because I don’t want to clean 2 sinks. The less I have to clean, the better!
Other changes:
In the living room and dining room, the small weird extra cabinets will be removed.
The closet in the 2nd bedroom is going to be expanded. I can’t wait to have room and hopefully Alex and my tendency to leave our clothes on the floor will be limited to the closet floor and I can just close the door! Ha!
