Anyone else struggle to come up with fun traditions and reasons to celebrate? My family always celebrates birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter and I love it! But I find myself wanting to celebrate throughout the year, to have markers that signal transitions from one season to the next or connect me to my heritage, a mishmash of European descent. Simple traditions that bring people together.
So I have been looking at when the seasons start and a way to do something simple but memorable. That last thing I want is another hefty to-do list. Well, the first day of Autumn (9-22-21) is a week away, whether you are ready for it or not. The leaves are changing, the sun is setting sooner, the days are cooling off and Starbucks launched their fall menu wayyy to early.
I love apple cider, I love the way it fills my home while it simmers on the stove. So I am starting a new tradition of making my first batch of spiced apple cider on the first day of fall! But I wanted it to be something I could share with my friends, so I made a recipe card and threw everything in a mason jar and will be dropping this off at some friends’ houses to join me in celebrating the first day of Autumn!
Here is a free printable of the recipe card:
Or you can write it out on a card. You could include the apple juice or tell them to add it to their favorite apple juice or cider.
Directions
In a mason jar place:
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon whole allspice
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- A couple of orange slices
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks
- Pinch of nutmeg
Top with a lid, print the card and leave at your neighbor/friends door!
Cheers to Autumn!
