Cottage, home-y, cozy, lived-in, traditional and colonial are some of the words I have been searching when trying to craft a vision for Barlow Blue.
If you haven’t checked out the before photos you can see them on this post:
I love a lived in, cozy, storytelling home. Think Kate Winslet’s house in The Holiday or Little Women. I love heirloom items and vintage finds, useful yet pretty household items. They have to hold up to my husband, who isn’t so gentle with things and hopefully some babies someday.
Mood Board:

I am so excited and this seems incredibly ambitious! But let’s be honest, anything is better than what was there. Setting a really low bar.
But the hardest part about this style is that it’s curated, it takes time to find things that speak to you and fit your space. I love the hunt but sometimes I just want my space to feel “finished” and that just is not the reality.
One thing about this new space for us is just that – space! We will be almost doubling our space and I am so excited to have furniture! My sister is housing our matching loveseat, I have a giant dining table in my parent’s barn. I beautiful buffet from Alex’s mom at my parent’s house. And not to mention I have a little list of furniture I am thinking will be amazing in the house. I am thinking a wood chest, a secretary desk, bookshelves and more!
Back to the “vision”. This is the direction/filter I will be using to make decisions. Details will definitely be changing as we make choices with the options we are presented with. For example, a curve ball was that they wanted to do wood stain grade trim rather than white mdf, so I had to make a little shift. Sometimes that is frustrating but I also see it as a challenge.
Do you see the vision for Barlow Blue?
Next post is about what changes we are making to the floorplan. Did you notice all the extra doorways and doors in the before photos? I will lay out the before floor plan and what changes we are going to make – stay tuned!
